Signs of the Bottom

Although each real estate market is unique, especially Nantucket’s, the Standard and Poor’s/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index is a good gauge of where the general real estate market stands and is headed. 15 out of 20 cities in the Standard and Poor’s/Case-Shiller 20-city home price index reported increased or stable prices causing the index to rise 0.5% as a whole, which is the first increase in 34 months. According to the National Association of Realtors, existing home sales and new home sales increased for three consecutive months. Housing starts increased 3.6% in June, which is probably another sign of the market stabilizing.

NOTES FROM PEPPER THE ELDER
It's not if, but when. And I'm not talking about the Cubs winning the World Series.

No. I'm talking about something almost as important. Inflation. It has to happen. There is simply too much money being printed. But wait. Historically what is the best hedge against inflation? That's right. Real estate. And to a certain extent, stocks. The problem with stocks is that they can be, and are, manipulated. A good piece of real estate is tangible and is not subject to the legerdemains of Company officers. Dirt. That's what its all about, and it doesn't come with annual reports.
