ISLAND HAPPENINGS
Pumpkin Pond Farm

Living Island Christmas Trees are now being sold at McGowan’s organic farm called Pumpkin Pond Farm. Sconset Gardener Owner, Marty McGowan and his sister Mary opened Pumpkin Pond Farm, a 1.2-acre organic farm and plant nursery over Daffodil weekend 2009. This local farm is loved by raw foodies and organic gardeners alike, and has diversified into living trees for the Christmas season. The farm’s notoriety comes from being featured on many fine dining menus, it supplies greens and organic vegetables to a handful of island restaurants. Pumpkin Pond Farm is located on the corner of Hummock Pond Road and Deer Run Road. NOTES FROM PEPPER THE ELDER
All around the world....

Today we find ourselves at another tony resort: The Mill Reel Club in Antigua, B.W.I. I'm a hyrdophilliac and this Pepper likes salt in his water. There are about sixty houses at Mill Reef with about 30% being owned by foreigners, mostly Europeans and Canadians. The Club accommodates an additional 100 or so with the same mixture. There is a smattering of Lords and Ladys with a bunch of Sirs. Sir Pepper? Dream on, Lad, dream on. It is a very congenial place with much banter. And inevitable, the talk turns to real estate and the weakness of the dollar. Euros, etc., and thinking U.S. real estate is ripe for the picking, particularly places they are familiar with, and, hence, comfortable. And one place they all know and like is Nantucket. Enough said? One last thought: The Canadian dollar is almost on a par with the good old greenback. Baron Von Pepper. it does have a ring.
