REAL ESTATE BUZZ
August State of the Nantucket Real Estate Market

Today, there are:
640 properties actively listed and 54 properties are under agreement or 7.8% of total market.
One year ago, there were:
725 properties actively listed and 52 properties under agreement or 6.7% of the total market.

So, despite the wild stock market, inventory is down 12% and deals are up 4% over a year ago. Both stats. pointing to a recovery.

RENTAL BUZZ
  Late Summer/Indian Summer on Nantucket

The next two months are some of the most beautiful on Nantucket, with warm weather, less crowds, and restaurant reservation accessibility, now is one of the best times to visit the island. For late summer events there is the Opera Cup with the Rainbow parade, Sandcastle and sculpture day at Jetties, then in September/October there is Fall Restaurant week, the Cranberry Festival, Nantucket Historical Association's Fall Harvest Fair, and the start of scalloping season.

If you haven't experienced the island this time of year, give us a call and let us assist you with a rental home.

NANTUCKET REAL ESTATE NEWSWIRE

NOTES FROM PEPPER THE ELDER
  Elmer

Well, it appears that gold is taking a bit of a breather after hitting $1,800. Believe me that's just what it is. A breather. Tomorrow, August 16, is the anniversary of Elvis' death. A black arm band sort of day for me. My father had approximately 30 straight years of Christmas cards from The King and Colonel Tom Parker. Think that would have made a cool montage? They burned up. While on the subject, Libby and I went to Roy Orbison's last concert. Libby remarked that he just didn't seem right. She was correct. While these two aforementioned men are priceless gems, there are some gems out there that seem downright cheap. Some Nantucket properties would appear to be millions of dollars undervalued. You tell this to some of these 'heavy hitters' and they say they're 'keeping their powder dry.' Let me click the light bulb on for you Elmer. There ain't no point in keeping the powder dry if you're not going to shoot at the wascalley wabbit.
