REAL ESTATE BUZZ
How's the Interior?

I grew up in a real estate family. I have been hearing real estate deals being negotiated since I was 3 months young. Sometimes I would hear my mom say, “How’d the third showing with so and so go?” My dad would say, “Libby, it’s never a good sign if they want to see the property for a third time. They are only talking themselves out of doing the deal; they are looking for excuses not to buy it.” Very ironic, too, because you tell your clients you have a third showing and they get excited that the buyers are going to make an offer, but, in reality, the opposite is happening-the buyers are talking their way out of the deal. Now that I am active in the real estate brokerage business, I see this phenomenon first hand; third + showings are the kiss of death. Most buyers that pull the trigger know it when they see it.

Last two properties my wife and I have bought, I made the offers before she had been to the properties. Naturally, she asked, “How’s the interior?” I replied, “Not sure, I haven’t been inside…”

NOTES FROM PEPPER THE ELDER
  Musings from Bermuda

Well, back from Bermuda. In all probability, I would normally say 'Cry Not for Bermuda.' However? Bermuda has a government that I would characterize as socialist. And it's killing the economy. Keep in mind, this is the highest per capita income in the world. Her prosperity is predicated on two things: tourism and tax havens. They (the government) can't seem to balance the two. They are leaning over backward to accommodate HSBC, which, in turn, is destroying the downtown, i.e. Hamilton. Hamilton? What is Hamilton without Triminghams'? Without Waterloo House? Answer. Not much. Not only is it too expensive for your average tourist, but there is also less and less to do. College week is gone. Too expensive. Only the Hasty Pudding and the Wiffenpoofs remain, and my guess is that Harvard and Yale can foot the bill.

There is a new political party, which is replacing the UBP, which was a largely conservative, fairly white party, with a largely black, fairly conservative party. The new party, OBA, has accused the PLP of racism. Finally a black accusing a black of racism. How refreshing. I believe that, in time, the new party will prevail and that prosperity will continue. The high price real estate (10-20 mil) is strong. Much like Nantucket, where there is virtually nothing on the market. And just in case you think I've forgotten about Mr. Ed and Don Ameche. I haven't. I mean that would be like forgetting about Pumpsie Green or Duncan Rinaldo.
