NANTUCKET REAL ESTATE BUZZ
Another Top Spot

Nantucket achieved an amazing accomplishment a few weeks ago, she was named the #1 island in the world by National Geographic (PHOTOS). I know some people think that is crazy (how about Hawaii, Indonesia, Virgin Islands, etc.), but having been fortunate to travel quite a bit of the world and see some amazing places (many islands included), I whole'heartedly agree with NG. What other island in the world is 60% conservation land, has many different landscapes from the Moors, to the Hummocks, to the different beaches, to the Atlantic, to the ponds, etc., has so many activities-hike, bike, swim, fish, sail, race, festivals..., has one of the most amazing historic towns in the world protected by one of the toughest (for better or worse) historic town boards in the country and probably the world, has world class beaches, shopping, 70+ restaurants and has amazing year-round and summer communities that care deeply for her? None come to mind.

Also, while we are at top spots, the Grey Lady nabbed another one-according to CNBC, she is the richest county in the country.

So both National Geographic and CNBC agree, Nantucket is top dog.

I feel blessed to be able to live here and in the United State of America!

Happy Fourth of July!!!

NOTES FROM PEPPER THE ELDER
  The Best

I'm more than a little confused. Here we have Nantucket named the best island in the world by a totally neutral (no advertisements) magazine: National Geographic, and there's nary a peep. So I thought about it. Is Nantucket better than Bermuda, The Vineyard, Capri, Santorini, Fiji, Antigua etc?

The answer is yes. I love Bermuda. But I couldn't live there. It's great for a week or two. The restaurants don't compare to Nantucket, nor does the fishing. It's a beautiful island but there has been virtually no conservation effort. It's proximity to Boston does let you get the Red Sox games, which once upon a time was a good thing. Also, international travel has become a royal pain. The synopsis of Bermuda is true of all the other mentioned islands with the exception of The Vineyard, which in so many respects is just plain grubby. Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven are slums. Anybody who thinks the Black Dog is a good restaurant should have their palate reassessed and (Gasp!) it's dry.

Look what Nantucket has: Great restaurants, superb architectural integrity, world class fishing and often over-looked, above average deer and bird hunting. The Old World charm of Nantucket is, with the possible exception of Beacon Hill, The Back Bay and down town Charleston sui generous. And that brings me to another plus: The proximity to Boston, to my mind, the best city in the U.S., if not the world. The only place I've ever been that's come close is Sydney.

What two brothers have the most major league wins, The aforementioned Niekros. The Marcels had a great rock and roll hit. Blue Moon. What well-known rockin' duo produced the book (Music and lyric)? Now this is a soft ball.
