  Garden Tools

Many moons ago when I worked as a commercial real estate broker, I remember the deals were about the numbers. Although they could be complicated, the numbers didn't lie; the Seller and/or Buyer might have lied, but the numbers didn't. So, as long as everyone agreed on the numbers, the deal should go through. Residential deals are so different, especially on Nantucket. No two properties are the same, so determining value is not always straightforward and a house is someone's home where many memories have been made and they are connected to it.

So, resi deals are typically full of emotion. If the emotions are not managed properly, a deal can fall apart over something that seems to be insignificant, but for whatever reason got the Buyer or Seller riled up. I just did a deal where the Seller almost crushed it because he was so fired up that the Buyer included his garden tools on the inventory list. Fortunately, I calmed him down, but it was close. So, if you've been wondering why I keep extra garden tools in my car, now you know.

Summer in Nantucket is a given. A known. But not so much the spring and the fall. A good spring is relatively uncommon. When you get one; what a bonus. The fall almost always cooperates and ram-a-lama ding-dong what a buffo season. For whatever reason the fall is somewhat undiscovered. Fewer crowds, the restaurants are still open, rents are cheaper, great fishing and beautiful clear crisp weather. The one thing that holds it back is the kids have to go back to school. Why? I guess under the guise that they're going to learn something. Not with the dumbing down of America. Home schooling is getting more prevalent and that will prolong the Nantucket season. The internet and all those gadgets with apps only make working from anywhere all the more easy. Yes. I admit it Nantucket is not the real world. The headaches of the mainland dissipate into salt air.

Are we lucky? Yes. Should I do The Bwernie hip hop and make my life more in line with the downtrodden and move to Bed Sty. No. But I don't think it would be a bad idea if Uncle Bwernie did. So I'll see you in Nantucket and will forward Bwernie's new address in Kew Gardens just as soon as I get it. Values are about to take one of their periodic spurts upward. There is plenty of more room to go.
