The Steamship Authority will begin accepting transferable vehicle ferry reservations for qualified residents on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, for summer travel. Please keep the following dates in mind, as reservations tend to fill quickly.
2026 Head Start Program Highlights
Eligibility: Open to island residents enrolled in the 2026 Excursion or Preferred programs
Travel Period: May 14–October 22, 2026
Opening Time: Reservations begin at 8:00 AM EST
Important Dates
January 20–26, 2026
During this window, all reservation types are allowed, including transferable reservations and bookings made for other accounts.
General Public Opening: January 27, 2026
Reservation Guidelines
- Each qualified resident is eligible for up to 10 Head Start reservations.
- Up to 5 of the 10 reservations may be made in another person’s name.
- Of those 5 reservations, up to 3 may be designated as transferable.

Helpful Hints
If you plan on making reservations online, it’s a good idea to set up or access your Steamship Authority account in advance of opening day. On January 20, be sure to have your profile number or username and PIN or password readily available. If you need assistance accessing this information, please contact the Steamship Authority directly.
When making reservations, have your vehicle information handy, including the year, make, model, and license plate number. If you’re planning on bringing a rental car, there is an option to indicate this during the booking process.
Homeowners, please note that once reservations open to the general public, there is typically an increase in rental inquiries. To ensure your property is well positioned, please confirm that your JPFCO rental calendar reflects your most current rates and availability. You may update your calendar using the link below or by replying directly to this newsletter.
