Did you know the movie The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, which is based off Nathaniel Benchley’s book, The Off-Islanders, is about a Soviet submarine that runs ashore in ‘Sconset? And, Nathaniel Benchley’s son, Peter Benchley wrote, Jaws, which was the story of the epic great white shark terrorizing Nantucket, which was subsequently made into a movie that was filmed on the Vineyard. Any ways, the Russians are not coming right now, because they are enjoying some Ruskova at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
However, the Nantucket builders are coming (they’ve actually arrived). The amount of construction on Island is shocking. Get ready for these numbers…

2005 – 1420
2006 – 1446

2009 – 1013
2010 – 1128

2013 – 1714
I imagine the 2014 number is going to be similar to 2013, which was the highest number ever. Logically so, these numbers follow how the market is doing; less building permits, weaker market; more building permits, stronger market.
So, if 2014 is going to be similar to 2013, then I wonder how the 2014 market is going to be?
