In last week’s Inky, there was an article about the Steamship Authority striking a deal with a New York based company called Seastreak LLC to allow Seastreak to dock a 141-foot cataraman high-speed ferry at their Nantucket dock on Friday and Sunday of June 5-7 and June 12-14. The cat. will leave Manhattan on Friday around 3pm and arrive at Nantucket at 9pm with a stop at Martha’s Vineyard first. I called up my friend who lives in Manhattan and said he should try it out. He said, “Whoa, you know what that can do for your market!” It’s true – if this gets traction, it could make travel to Nantucket for the Manhattanites far easier and accessible, which will drive demand up. Imagine, if you lived in Manhattan and now have the option of taking a beautiful boat ride while you eat a sandwich, drink a beer and bask in the sun while traveling to Nantucket compared to, stuck in traffic, starving and thirsty trying to get to Nantucket or the Hamptons. If it works, then hopefully they will increase service so people have the option to stay for week blocks, not just the weekend. Until then, another great option for the weekend warrior!
