Town Meeting

Town Meeting has come and gone. The main hot topics were 1) whether or not to support the building of a new Our Island Home at an estimated cost of $137mm, 2) whether or not to support the Nantucket Public Schools’ proposal to renovate the athletic facilities and change the Vito Capizzo field from grass to turf at an estimated cost of $26mm, 3) whether or not to expand the municipal sewer system at an estimated cost of $45mm and 4) whether to approve allowing for the expansion of the erosion control geotube project at the base of the Baxter Road bluff, to be funded privately. All were approved to be on the ballot for a vote except the one that was going to be funded privately. Should be interesting to see which way people vote at the ballot when their heartstrings aren’t getting pulled as they do at Town Meeting – $208mm is a lot of money…
