The Nantucket market continues to be strong and there are no signs of it slowing. The last two years (’14 and ’15) were strong years and the dollar volumes for the first two months of those years compared to ’16 were almost identical – $124mm in ’14, $127mm in ’15 and $125mm in ’16. ’14-’16 represents three of the best six starts in Nantucket history. Guess when the other three top starts were? You guessed it, ’04-’06. Considering ’04 ended with $1bn in volume, ’05 with $1.2bn, ’06 with $840mm, ’14 with $1bn and ’15 with $850mm, I feel optimistic about ’16. Can the first two months predict how the year will unfold? No, but couple history with empirical evidence and I know which way I’m betting.
